Choosing tiles for a Scandinavian style kitchen

Having finally found my home decor style (see here), when it comes to choosing tiles for my long awaited kitchen renovation, the decision is so much easier! A Scandinavian kitchen traditionally has a simple and elegant design, that manages to be both classic and modern at the same time. Surfaces tend to be clutter free and white, creating a light and airy space. All white can sometimes look too stark, so tiles can create the perfect ‘pop’ of colour or pattern. As I like to constantly change my accessories, I’ve narrowed down the search even more and decided to go for all white tiles, with wooden accessories to add warmth and texture.

The biggest tile trend around at the minute is hexagonal. You can find them in all different colours and sizes but these are the ones that are on my shortlist:

These tiles are on the larger size and are shown here with black grout, which really makes a statement. You can find them here.

Another popular classic is the metro tile, which again you can find in different colours and either flat or raised. These are my favourite metro tiles:

They are available online here, and are very reasonably priced. These are also very effective with dark grout.

If you’re looking for budget tiles, consider a simple square white tile.

Lots of retailers sell plain white tiles, but these are the cheapest ons that I’ve found.

An interesting effect can be created by simply laying the tiles in a chevron effect.

These tiles measure 5cm by 20 cm, which is perfect if you want to recreate this look.

You will find lots of geometric shapes in Scandinavian style so I’ve included some geo inspired tiles for your perusal. My all time favourites are these ones:

with these as hot contender:

And what I have only just realised is that they are actually the same tiles, just with a different orientation!! These are a little pricey but I think they’re stunning.

As tiles are quite an investment, I’ll be ordering some samples, which most companies offer, so I don’t make an expensive mistake!
